About
The Editors and the Magazine
How we got started
10 West Preston was started as a way to give UB students an outlet to publish their work. The name 10 West Preston was chosen as the title of the publication for the commonality it shares among its students as the home of the School of Communications Design. Even though the members of this founding editorial staff have very different personalities and experiences, we all share the same memories here at 10 West Preston. From class to critiques, this building is filled with thousands of memories. Those memories have lead to many beautiful designs we want to share with the world.
Design is the conscious effort to impose a meaningful order.
Ludwig Mies Van Der Rohe
Our Mission
The mission of 10 West Preston is to publish and educate others about the types of designs created here at UB. Our digital publication provides all aspiring designers an place to share, create and collaborate with with others.

I do my very best reflecting when I am stuck in my little gray cubicle at work. A year ago, while in this deep state of thought, I mapped out a path to a more creative career field. Design and I began flirting, then we started fooling around, and now we are having a full blow love affair behind my day job’s back. The best thing about being in this program and working on 10 West Preston, is seeing what good can come of a brainstorming session. Because of that, I know I’m in the right field. I love everything about being creative from print design to letterpress, and photography. I strongly dislike boring flow charts, stuffy offices, and light beer. I’ll never work in a place that has gray cubicles again. EVER.

I’m a 3rd semester Publications Design student at UB. Although I received my BA in English Literature at Manchester College in North Manchester, IN, design has followed me since I was an editor for my high school yearbook and newspaper. I aspire to become Creative or Art Director at a magazine (who knows where) and I am determined to own at least three dogs once my career is established. My loves: Being a student, coffee, InDesign, and late nights playing Sims. I am very excited to be a part of 10 West Preston. The group girls I’m working with are all wonderful people and a great creative team. We hope this online magazine continues on and becomes a useful outlet for UB designers for years to come.
Vienna Garwood DeGiacomo
Vienna Garwood DeGiacomo finds herself at the University of Baltimore as the founding Editor-in-Chief of 10 West Preston by way of New York City. She is a Publications Design student with aspirations of opening her own marketing and branding firm. Vienna enjoys the finer things in life, especially good food, great friends, interesting conversation, and trashy TV shows about the state of New Jersey. She is uncomfortable talking about herself in the third-person. Vienna is afraid of sharks, loves a good gin and tonic in the summer sun, and will ask anyone to critique her work.
Sara Blumberg
I found my way to the UB Publications Design knowing very little about the design word. A year later, I am amazed on how I continue to grow both technically and creatively. For me, creating 10 West Preston was a chance to combine both my writing and design skills. As a full-time writer, this publication has given me a chance to express myself creatively, while organizing an outlet for other students to showcase their work. With all of our hardwork, I hope our little publication project is as much fun to look at as it was as much fun creating.
How it works
10 West Preston is updated on a rolling basis with student design work. We are constantly accepting new work from students. If interested in publishing your piece, email it in pdf or (video) form and send it to 10westpreston@gmail.com. Make sure to include your name, program, class, project name, and a synopsis of your project in your description.
Please keep the description to under 200 words.
